By far, “How do websites get traffic?” is one of the most searched questions you will see for SEO and keyword tools. The reason is very simple. The goal of every website’s owner is to directly increase the visibility rate of their websites. This goal can only be achieved by practicing several search engine friendly SEO techniques.

As a website owner or someone who just wants to learn the basics of SEO, read this article to the end. I will show you how your goals, based on your needs, can be achieved, by breaking down the complex topic of SEO into a simple and relatable analogy—the rich man poor man analogy of website—that will put ahead of the learning curve.

I am not the second Dan Brown, so be assured I will give you the simplest explanation on how to build your website’s authority. A website that has authority benefits from organic traffic that increases visibility rate. Now, one of the purposes of this article is to teach you how to increase the visibility rate of your website.

Few years back, I developed the “popular and underground artist analogy of authority.”

In the article, I made the complex topic of building link profile as simple as just collaborating with or featuring popular artists on a song. For example, if Chris Brown collaborates with an underground artist on a song, by default, that artist will become popular. Building link profile in the SEO industry works pretty much the same.

Before going further, it is important to note that the subject of authoritative website is incomplete if Search Engine Optimization is not dealt with as well.

What Is SEO And What Does It Do?

First off, SEO means Search Engine Optimization. And according to Brain Dean, an expert in the SEO industry, Search engine optimization is the practice of getting targeted traffic to a website from a search engine’s organic rankings. Another expert, Rand Fishkin, contributed by redefining SEO as the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of the traffic that you earn through the organic results in search engines.

Now, these two definitions have one word in common—traffic—and that is what everyone says. In the simplest words, SEO means practicing anything legal that will increase the visibility rate of your content (a web page, a video, an image, publications on social networks, etc.). Your visibility rate is the number of times your content appears first on Search Engines Results Page(SERP). It is essential to note, now, that the higher the visibility rate of your website, the more authority your website gets.

In other words, the more your website or webpage gets picked up by search engines, the more trustworthy your website becomes. On this note, traffic as was used by both Fishkin and Dean simply means visibility rate.

Your ability to practice the techniques required to increase your website’s visibility rate is explained by the word optimization, which in this context means to practice the use of keywords, writing lengthy and inclusive articles, building your linking profile, etc., as these things will improve your website and influence algorithms as revealed by Google.

Have you understood what SEO means, now? I will take that as a no. Now, let me simplify further. If you already have, go to the next section.

Let’s look at search engines as affiliate marketers, they are, as a matter of fact. The only difference is that this don’t get paid in commission as regular affiliate markers do. Don’t get me wrong now, the owners of these search engines get well paid.

Once you practice the techniques of SEO, search engines will increase the visibility rate of website, but if your website does not contain valuable information, keywords and quality backlinks, it will not be indexed by the algorithms? You want to make sure your webpages are well optimized.

In my metaphorical comparison of Chris Brown and an underground artist, I noted that the ability of the underground artist to maintain the recognition gained from his collaboration with Chris Brown on a song, is based on the quality of his previous songs and the ones he’s yet to record.

If the optimization of your website is not maintained, your visibility rate will decrease. In other words, your website will no longer appear first on SERP. That is pretty enough for SEO. I believe you have understood the concept. Now, let’s keep moving, pal.

I can’t estimate how many times you have heard of or even spoken about SEO before landing on this page. However, the thing that baffles me though is, are the things you have heard of and spoken of about SEO really different from what the so-called SEO experts have been saying?

Your answer is probably yes. You must have learned almost everything you know about SEO from experts… I am in no way trying to relegate or dismiss the brilliant concepts these SEO masters have pushed over the years, but let me shock you with something different. By the way, if it your first time coming across SEO, stick with me. You will eat your recess before recess period—you’ll learn everything about SEO before entering the SEO industry. Like I said previously, I am a man of my word.

Here are five SEO techniques you must practice

  1. If you want your website receives a steady stream of organic traffic, you must link with authoritative websites in your niche. Users of authoritative website will more or like click on your link and automatically become your followers.
  2. Well-optimized websites focus on providing an excellent user experience, with fast loading times, mobile responsiveness, easy navigation, and engaging content. As a result, visitors stay longer on the site, reducing bounce rates and increasing user engagement metrics. You must improve your user experience to retain the traffic you will be receiving from your collaboration with authoritative websites.
  3. Website that have huge following built trust and authority over time by consistently delivering valuable content, earning high-quality backlinks from reputable sources, and actively engaging with its audience. If you want huge following, you must learn to be trustworthy as well.
  4. A well-optimized website keeps up with the latest SEO trends and algorithm changes, ensuring it remains relevant and competitive in the ever-evolving search landscape. Website optimization means opening your eyes to new trends in the SEO industry and adapting or readjusting yourself.

Why does my website not rank on Google’s first results page? You are about to know the answer to that question in just few seconds. You will also learn what you can do if you want your website to rank on Google’s first result page. Practicing all the SEO techniques does not automatically mean you will rank first on search engine results page. What it does mean is you are technically asking algorithm to index your webpages or website. Now, there are several dos and don’ts to the effect.

Stay with me, I will show you exactly what I mean. But, before we jump right into the cooky’s jar, let’s understand the relationship between SEO and website authority, by using the “Rich Man Poor Man Analogy of Website Authority." This concept is rare and unconventional. You will hardly see it anywhere, but here.

The Rich Man Poor Man Analogy of Website Authority

Now, we have three parties. The rich man who represents an authoritative website, the poor man who represents websites without authority and the third party is a girl who represents the reader, you. This is the simplest explanation about website’s authority you will see. By the way, an authoritative website simply means the accuracy and trustworthiness of your website is very strong and google can rely on them.

Most girls want a rich guy who is very popular. By what means he became popular is not mostly their concern though. This is exactly what readers do as well; excluding you…lol. Most of them go after websites with big names. They care less to investigate whether those websites are in strict line with Google’s SEO best practices.

Like most girls, readers become frustrated in the end. The values most girls truly want and desire more are love, attention, loyalty and respect. Now, girls will become very frustrated when a guy of their choice, a guy with authority—a rich guy—does not have those values. Readers experience the exact same disappointment because most of these so-called big websites do not have inclusive articles with valuable information that are user-friendly and up to date with trending information.

For most readers, they rephrase their search quires when they do not find meaningful answers on the first result page. They will never stroll to the last result page where the so-called websites without authority are.

In the same way, when a girl becomes frustrated by the first rich man, she will most likely find another rich man, not a poor man. It can be proven that poor men are the ones who show genuine love, respect, attention and loyalty to girls. The reason is simple. A poor man does not have the resources to date more than one girl, so he will love the one he has to the core.

In the same way, owners of the so-called websites without authority may have inclusive articles with valuable and up-to-date information, but because they are not financially capacitated to practice certain SEO techniques which require money, they are left at the bottom of the Red Sea.

Accessing keywords for search engines or building a mobile friendly website is not free. You have to be on some sort of monthly subscriptions. You may have the most inclusive article, but without the right keywords, you are going nowhere. You may have a valuable and up-to-date content, but without mobile-friendly interface, you are not going to rank well.

For rich men, most of them have the ability to date more than one girl so they become careless. In the same way they can pay for keywords and mobile-friendly website and rank better over you even though their contents are not as valuable as yours. I will provide a list of SEO techniques that you can practice to attract organic traffic at the end of this article. Not just that, I will also give you a list of free and less expensive SEO and keywords tools that you can use, so stick with me.

Let’s continue discovering, shall we? Okay. The first few webpages that show up after you have made a query are held with high esteem because they all come from authoritative websites. Authoritative websites are noted to have all the information related to keywords in your search queries. They have valuable and reliable information, but is that really the case always? For a website to have authority, it needs to be optimized by several methods. Otherwise, your website will continue to remain at the bottom of every search results page even though it’s worth reading.

Again, I am a man of my words. I like to fulfill my promises, so now let me tell you about the dos and the don’ts in the SEO industry.

The Don’ts in the SEO industry

Don’t buy links—Black hat SEO practices

This is a big mistake that almost all bloggers make. Trust me, you are not going to end up like them after reading this article. I care about your business so I will not encourage anything that jeopardizes it. Buying links will reduce your rankings and if algorithms notice this action, your website will automatically be unindexed provided it was previously indexed.

The reason is simple. This act is strongly prohibited by Google. It is against Google’s policy. By the way, linking in this context simply means citation. If webmasters naturally cite your webpage, Google becomes happy because the equity an authoritative website passes to you is what Google builds her trust on to rank your website on her first results page, but if you pay to be cited, my dear, it is wrong and Google will find you.

Linking is a very strong SEO factor therefore Google does not joke with it. Links are usually anchor text that redirect readers to your website or webpage for more details on a particular topic. Imagine if you do not have quality information on your website. You will not just be saying goodbye to your visitors, you will also be making Google look very bad to its users and Google hates to look bad.

Secondly, the traffic that a particular link brings you may not be in your target niche. If you are into the SEO niche like I am and you bought links that bring in a huge monthly traffic, but your sales still remain very low. You are getting the wrong traffic. If your monthly visitors increase, your conversion rate should never remain low. It must increase in the same proportion your traffic increases or in less proportion. This magic can only happen if you are receiving the right visitors.

Avoid duplicating

This may not seem like a big deal to you, but remember that no sin goes unpunished. Duplicating articles is also called plagiarizing if you are not the original creator of the content. Remember that plagiarizing is a crime and if you are reported to Google for this crime, your website may be ban.

Note that even if you are the owner of say, two websites that may be in the same niche, copying and pasting contents between them in this context is also plagiarizing even if you are the original creator of the content. The reason is simple. Algorithms do not know you. They only know domain names and URLs, so duplicating contents mean end of business my friend. Google will ban you!

Is that want you want? I guess your answer is a resounding “NO”. Now, if you don’t want that, start creating original and quality contents. If you are tire or you practically do not have time to write articles, contact my friend. Remember that if your website has quality contents, webmasters may link to it, too and you, my friend, that’s exactly what you want—an authoritative website as well.

Avoid Niche Competition

Some industries or niches are more competitive than others. Industries like finance, health, and technology tend to have more competition due to their widespread appeal and high search volume. Even the SEO industry is highly completive as well. Getting into these niches may not be bad if you invest time and resources into SEOs but, do not expect to rank on first result pages very fast.

First, algorithms must recognize your domain name. After that, it must crawl your web pages to learn what your website is about before it becomes indexed. All those processes take a significant amount oof time. In contrast, smaller, specialized niches may have lower competition.

The Dos in the SEO industry

Practicing guest posting

The amount of traffic that comes to your website on a monthly basis must never be underestimated, especially when this traffic is in your niche. The most interesting thing about this is you can get this traffic by simply guesting posting. While guest posting seems old fashioned, it is still gold.

Backlinks are very important to Google and guest posting quality contents on highly relevant websites can earn you these links. As far as I know, Google has been trying to put an end to this, but they have not succeeded. Blogger outreach and link exchange for promotion are all in the same family.

I know you are wondering what guest posting is. Guest post is usually a content that you wrote and sent to an authoritative website administrator with the hope that it will be accepted and published. Before writing a guest post, make sure it covers a particular topic directly related to the niche of the website you want to pitch. This is simply because you’re writing to amuse their audience.

If you don’t take that into consideration the great content you might spend days or weeks compiling might end up being rejected. Make sure that you already have extra ordinary contents on your website that are directly related to your niche before guest posting.

This is my third time mentioning this, because if you already don’t have contents on your website, generating links from guest post will be pointless. However, if you are on the right footing and your work is accepted and published, you will be rewarded with a link back to your site along with an author bio that talks about you and or your business. this what we call backlink and it could also help your rankings and SEOs. Guest post creates authoritative links like no other if you consider few other important things.

Guest post has given a lot of influential persons and marketers huge and loyal audience, high paying clients and enhanced their brand. Guest posting is an amazing way to build your link profile, but if you want to do this, you have to do a thorough research before writing a guest post to an authority website. A smart guest blogger will take the following into considerations:

  1. Write reviews instead of news posts
  2. Prioritize inspiring readers and solving problems
  3. Write for special occasions and pitch a webmaster

Put your brand in people’s mouths

When your website becomes the talk of the town, that’s another level success. At the time SEO hit the market, Backlinnko was the talk of the town because Dean Brain and few other became pioneers in the industry. Until today, Backlinko is still benefitting from that success.

Be in strict adherence to Google’s E.E.A.T

We have been noticing the term EAT appearing predominantly in the Google Quality Content Guidelines since the 2018 medic update. E.A.T. means Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. As of 2023, Google decided to add another E for experience to this acronym making it E.E.A.T For a website to be fully indexed by Google, Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness must be observed because all these four factors help Google understand how accurate, honest, safe, and reliable the content is to rank on search results.

Include keyword in your domain name

Certain keywords and search queries have high competition because many websites are targeting them. These keywords are often more generic, popular, and relevant to a broader audience. For example, keywords like "weight loss tips" or "best smartphones" are highly competitive because many websites aim to rank for them. Now, if you insert a keyword or phrase in your name, it increases your chances of being captured by algorithms.

Remember also that competition is a fundamental aspect of SEO, and websites must navigate the challenges it presents to achieve higher rankings. By inserting keyword or phrase in your domain name and delivering exceptional content and user experiences, your website will gradually become improved and search engine visibility rate will increase.

Until we meet again, cheers to your success in whatever you want to achieve!
